I’d like to express the theme of boundaries in my artwork, using types of brushwork that show fleshiness or bodily functions. For the first of the three series works I will express boundaries of the human form. More specifically boundaries being displayed between two people, friends, family, coworkers etc. I want to portray emotion through suggestive facial features. I want the viewer to feel uncomfortable, showing struggles of boundaries through imagery, ex. knotted rope. I would be using oil paints on canvas for all paintings.
For the second piece I will be showing boundaries in the physical form, ex. physical objects placed to show the literal form of what a boundary looks like to me. Objects being contained and shown through an obvious boundary. This came through as a grid like format/matrix.
For the third piece I will be expressing boundaries through space and time, a more experimental artwork that challenges societal boundaries. This painting shouldn’t make sense in any capacity and is meant to be interpreted differently. The last two canvases will be done in smaller canvas premade canvases that I have at home.
These three pieces will include vibrant colors, an overall feeling of being bounded in some way, including fleshiness or human-like irregularities. Boundaries tend to be confusing as they are in real life although the word itself marks a clear line that limits an area. The questions I ask to the viewer are what one's own limits are and what kinds of feelings arise when boundaries are being pushed on to each other or how things interact with one another.
